Doug Sharrott EE’83

Running for: Nominating Committee

Campaign Statement

I look forward continuing to serve the CUAA and represent our alumni.  I promise to maintain transparency, seek input from our members and others, and strive to see The Cooper Union Return to Free.

Biography

I was an author of CUAA’s new constitution, which was overwhelmingly adopted by our membership in the 2016 Spring Election.  I presently serve on the Alumni Council as the Chair of the Election Committee, where I have successfully transitioned the CUAA to a new electronic voting system.

I graduated from The Cooper Union in 1983 with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, and from Polytechnic University (now NYU Tandon School of Engineering) in 1987 with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering.   From 1983 to 1993 I worked as an electrical engineer at Fairchild-Weston, Hazeltine, and Grumman, working on communication, identification, and missile tracking systems.

I attended Brooklyn Law School at night, and in 1994 I graduated magna cum laude.  I have practiced intellectual property law for nearly 30 years, first at Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto and now at Venable.  I have been a lead trial attorney in numerous intellectual property cases before the federal courts, the International Trade Commission and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, representing companies such as IBM, Hewlett Packard, Philips Van Heusen, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Canon, Becton Dickinson, Johnson Outdoors, and Novartis.  I have served on the President’s Advisory Council of Brooklyn Law School and the Advisory Board of Nanotechnology Law and Review.

My wife Karen and I have four children and five grandchildren.
