Running For: Nominating Committee

Campaign Statement

I am extremely grateful for the Cooper Union community and how it shaped me into the individual I am today. This appreciation has made me eager to seek out new opportunities to maintain and strengthen my connection to Cooper as a recent graduate. Since moving to Maryland, I represented Cooper Union at the Loudoun County Public School College Fair and planned an event in Washington D.C. for Cooper Together Week. I am excited to continue this service as a member of the CUAA Nominating Committee for the upcoming year.

Biography

I graduated from Cooper Union in 2016 with a degree in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Biomedical Engineering. Throughout my undergraduate experience, I always found involving myself in the greater Cooper Union community to be extremely rewarding. As a student, I helped found the chemical engineering honor society, Omega Chi Epsilon (OXE), and the Martial Arts Club, in addition to holding officer positions in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and the South Asian Society. In my senior year, I made a special effort to ensure my impacts on the community would be lasting by working as a Resident Assistant and becoming a member of the Senior Council. I saw my RA role as an exciting opportunity to positively influence the next generation of Cooper students and encouraged them to engage in the vibrant campus community. I applied this same mentality to my graduating classmates as a member of the Senior Council and led the Class of 2016 to raise nearly $19,500 for The Cooper Union Annual Fund.

Currently, I am using my training in chemical engineering to tackle the complex problems associated with tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Living in Bethesda, Maryland, I work for the National Institutes of Health as a Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Fellow. My research concerns developing a novel bioprocess for generating neural retina organoids from mouse pluripotent stem cells, which can be used as an enhanced platform for screening potential therapeutics for retinal degenerative diseases. In the fall of 2017, I will complete this fellowship and begin earning my PhD in Biomedical Engineering. In my spare time, I train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and I’m currently preparing to compete in the 2017 IBJJF New York Open.
