Morris Ketay 1926

Morris Ketay grew up on the Lower East Side of New York City. He emigrated with his parents from Russia when he was four years old. He received a degree in electrical engineering in from The Cooper Union in 1926. His first position after college was that of a draftsman at Charles Corey Corporation, located on Varick Street. He rose to Chief Engineer four years later.

Corey Electronics merged with Bendix Aviation. Morris eventually became the director of Engineering and Sales of Bendix Aviation’s Marine Division. In 1944, he formed his own company, Ketay Manufacturing Company, which specialized in instrumentation for fighter aircraft. In 1955, Ketay Manufacturing absorbed Norden Laboratories to become Norden-Ketay Corporation. That company acquired several other companies working in the defense industry including: American Metal Company, Scientific Specialties Corporation, and Frohman Manufacturing Corporation.

Morris Ketay received the CUAA Gano Dunn Award in 1956. He received a Cooper Union Presidential Citation in 1967. He was inducted into The Cooper Union Hall of Fame in 2009.  He passed away in 1970.
