Gerald Monroe was born August 17, 1926, in Brooklyn, he served in the Pacific Theater at the end of WWII. He graduated from the Cooper Union Night school in 1962, and received his doctorate from NYU where he also taught drawing as an adjunct instructor. He was a professor at Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) in the 1970’s and 1980’s. He retired from college teaching in 1986.

A memorial retrospective show titled, Emergence, was held for Gerald at Gallery North in Setauket, NY from February 24 through April 2022. Gerald Monroe passed away in June 2021. See show
