Running For: Nominating Committee

Campaign Statement

When I first was elected to the CUAA council, the Cooper community was in crisis, and the future viability of the school was in doubt. Cooper was drifting rapidly off course due to actions by the board of trustees and the president. I strongly supported the lawsuit brought by the Committee to Save Cooper Union, and I drafted the letter from the CUAA council appealing to the State Attorney General for decisive intervention. In the end, we prevailed, and the consent decree we now operate under gives Cooper a fresh chance at restoring our historic mission of free education as well as maintaining the intensely focused and intimate learning environment that defines the Cooper culture. We are in a much better place now than we were three years ago, but our future success depends on continued vigilance and active alumni participation.
