Matthew Becker, Electrical Engineering 1921, was a professional engineer and manufacturer committed to industrial education.  He was President of the Standard Switchboard Corporation.  He started modestly, during of the Great Depression with a small firm, Standard Switchboard Corporation, which he built up to an outstanding position in the industry. 

Matthew Becker was committed to vocational education, philanthropy, and civic causes.  Matthew Becker was the Chairman of the Public Transportation Advisory Board of Hallandale, Florida from 1982 to 1985.  He served as president of the Cooper Union Alumni Association and was recognized by the Cooper Union Alumni Association as 1958 Alumnus of the Year.

In 1956, Matthew was recognized as one of 25 Cooper Union alumni who had attained a high level of professional success, during a 3 day alumni session held in 1956, where Buckminster Fuller was the key speaker. Matthew Becker received the The Cooper Union President’s Citation in 1956 and was inducted into The Cooper Union Hall of Fame in 2009.
