CUAA Council Meeting Featuring the Cooper Union Hyperloop team

The next Alumni Council Meeting will be held this Tuesday, February 19th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Our special guests, The Cooper Union Hyperloop team, will begin the evening with an update on their progress.The Cooper Union Hyperloop team, will begin the evening with an update on their progress.

The Cooper Union Hyperloop Team is one of 52 semi-finalist teams
working to design and construct a Hyperloop pod to compete at the
2019 SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition.

Drawn from a multi-disciplinary community of engineering, architecture,
and design students, the Cooper Union Hyperloop Team is using its
collective skills to develop and fabricate Pod systems,
including acceleration, levitation, and electronic sensors. Follow

Mock Interview Night

The CUAA, Alumni Affairs, and the Center for
Career Development invite alumni to help current Cooper
engineering students practice their interviewing skills for
internships, employment, and graduate school. This event is an
excellent opportunity for students to gain interviewing skills
from experienced alumni like you. Good listening skills and a
willingness to share positive and critical feedback are a must.

When:    Thursday,
February 28th from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Where:   Alumni
Affairs Dep’t, 30 Cooper Square, 3rd floor

Food and refreshments will be served. Lessons will
be learned.

Richard Schwartz, ME’57, among
winners of the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering

Richard Schwartz, ME’57, and three others were named winners of the 2019 Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering.
 The prestigious prize has been awarded every two years since 2013
for ground-breaking innovation in engineering that has globally
benefited humanity. This year’s awardees were chosen for
their contributions to Global Positioning System (GPS)
technology. 

Richard is an aerospace engineer and executive who played a
pioneering role in the development of Navstar GPS, the
satellite-based navigation system. After graduating from Cooper
Union and earning an MBA from Pepperdine University, he began a
32-year career with Rockwell International.  Richard went on
to lead development of rocket propulsion systems, the space
shuttle Orbiter program, and the Saturn V program. 

Richard received the 1990 CUAA Gano Dunn Award and was inducted
into The Cooper Union Hall of Fame in 2009.
