Jack Yogman ChE’48

New pic of Jack YogmanJack Yogman was born in 1920.  He graduated from The Cooper Union with a chemical engineering degree in 1948.  He went to work with  Stevenson Jordan at Jordan & Harrison which was a management en­gineering and consulting company.

Jack Yogman joined Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc. in 1957 after 11 years with Stevenson Jordan­ and he was appointed assistant to the president of Seagrams in July of 1964.

Jack Yogman became president and chief executive officer of Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc. on July 29, 1971.  On the same day he was also named a vice president of Distillers Corporation‐Seagrams Ltd which was the parent company of Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc.  He joined the board of directors for Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc. in 1969.

Jack left Seagrams in 1977 to chair the board of the Samuel Bronfman Foundation where he assisted with the selection of winners of the Bronfman Prizes for Public Health Achievement.  The Bronfman prizes consist of a $5,000 honorarium, an engraved scroll, and a crystal cube which symbolizes the thrust of creative public health practice leading directly to improved health and life expectancy for large numbers of people.

He briefly served as Vice President at Esquire Magazine in 1977 and at the same time he served on the Board of Directors for Ward Foods. Following the unexpected death of the Ward Food President on December 26, 1977, Jack Yogman was elected by the Board to the position of Interim President of Ward Foods in January 1978.  He retired 8 Months later and took a position with the overseas unit of Case & Co. which was a management consultant firm.

Jack Yogman ChE’48 served in the Cooper Union Alumni Association as a Council Member and as an Alumni Trustee.  Jack is a member of the Lifetime Giving Society at The Cooper Union.

Jack received a President’s Citation award from the Cooper Union in  1971.  He was the CUAA Alumnus of the Year in 1986,  and he was enrolled in The Cooper Union Hall of Fame in 2009.

Jack Yogman passed away on August 2, 1996.
