Nancy Yieh, ME’79

Nancy Yieh, Engineering 1979, was vice president of gas operations at Con Edison of New York. She was responsible for infrastructure reliability for the gas delivery network, energy conservation, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and ensuring public safety.

With a distinguished career in engineering, Yieh has been a pioneer for women in the field. She was accepted into the Cooper Union engineering program at a time when fewer than five percent of the practicing engineers in the United States were women. Among the many milestones she achieved at Con Edison, she is one of few women utility company executives in America and was one of the first women in New York City to receive a stationary engineer’s license.

In 2004, Yieh was a recipient of the Asian American Business Development Center’s Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business award. She is a member of the board of directors for the non-profit organization Asian Women in Business. She is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Gas Operators, and serves on the Northeast Gas Association’s Operations Managing Committee.

Nancy Yieh received the 2008 Cooper Union President’s Citation and was inducted into the The Cooper Union Hall of Fame in 2009.
